Visiting the Yadkin Valkey area of our state has been a real delight. We stayed five days at the Geystone RV resort in Pinnacle, NC. What a wonderful park this is with front row views of Pilot Mountain from each RV site. We came here with the idea of doing some hiking but quickly discovered that there’s so much more to do in this area. The first day we visited Mayberry (Mt Airy), this is where the Andy Griffith show was filmed and the town is full of memorabilia from that show including the Andy Griffith museum. We sampled some local craft beer which is always a good idea.
The Pilot Mountain State Park has something for everyone. We decided to take the Mountain Trail which goes at a lower elevation but gave us a seven mile hike through gorgeous woods. This is an intermediate trail challenging at times but very enjoyable. We then drove to the summit viewing area ( the summit knob is for rock climbers only) and took some great pictures of the Yadkin valley bellow.
And for the major attraction Wine! This area has more than twenty vineyards some with award winning wines, we visited Shelton, Jolo and Divine Llama. We found a couple we could not resist, especially a white at Divine Llama that was very unique, dry but with a touch of sweetness we really enjoyed. Usually we stay away from sweet wines but this was delicious, I’ll save it to pair with some cheese.
Speaking of Divine Llama winery , what a special place this is,being a llama and alpaca sanctuary (they actually employ the llamas to harvest the wine) you can get up close and personal with them. Leo and I thouroughly enjoyed our visit here.
